Why does oven element keep blowing
As soon as electricity can pass between the inside and outside metal the element will break down often resulting in a fuse blowing.
A faulty element repair in your oven is one of the easier repair jobs to execute. Elements can sometimes be replaced from the inside cavity of the appliance but more often than not an engineer will need access to the back of the oven to disconnect the wires and undo the fastening screws. Therefore, whilst there are some people who would be confident in replacing an element themselves, we strongly advise you to seek the services of a qualified service engineer.

It consists of an uninsulated metal conductor and when an electric current passes through it, its resistance to the flow of electricity makes it heat up.
Among the conditions that can cause elevated temperatures are insufficient airflow in the element compartment, failure of safety devices and a power surge. Replacing a Hot Water Heater Element If your water heater is 6 years or older, you may want to consider purchasing a new one. Heating elements can naturally wear out over time, but overloading the dryer, not cleaning the lint screen and poor ventilation can all speed up that process.
Skip to content Appliance. Don't submerge the coils or any electrical portion in water. A typical heating element is usually a coil, ribbon straight or corrugated , or strip of wire that gives off heat much like a lamp filament.
When an electric current flows through it, it glows red hot and converts the electrical energy passing through it into heat, which it radiates out in all directions. If the element has cracked and bent towards the metal walls of the oven , then a spark can form between the broken element and the oven walls, which then will blow fuses or trip breakers.
If the bottom element is damaged, the oven is not going to work very effectively. Remove Oven Element for Cleaning You typically do this by sliding it backward to unhook it and lifting it. Removing the element involves unhooking electrical connections, so be sure to unplug the oven. If you can't do that, turn off the breaker in the main panel that controls the oven.
Check the temperature of the thermometer. If the temperature is the same as the setting on the oven , then your thermostat is working correctly. If the thermometer doesn't match your oven , it's an indication that it's faulty.
You should re-test your oven to make sure that the thermostat is broken. Test and replace an electric oven selector switch: Unplug the oven or turn off power at the electrical service panel. Open the control panel see above and set a multimeter to RX1 resistance times 1.
To replace the switch, remove any screws from the front of the control panel and pull the switch out the back. Why does my oven element keep blowing? Sam7 said:. Click to expand Specialist said:.
Hi: If you want to get the oven checked out, take a look at www. Reaction score Id check the Fan motor is working correctly, they often seize when hot, this will undoubtedly cause premature failure.
Not so sure the thermostat will be at fault, how's your food coming out? Burnt or ok lol. You could always do a center oven temp test. Record the cut in and cut out on the third occasion, add the 2 and then divide by 2 for the mean temp.
I don't think voltage would cause an element to fail that prematurely, though if the elements are a poor quality then its possible i suppose. Regards Chris. Engineer54 said:. Don't tell they need to be a member of a scheme type body too, before they are considered ''Competent''??
Reaction score 3, Amazing how all these oven and washing machine repair men have had to go to uni and get their degree, who would have thought you needed a degree for fixing an tumble dryer, still same as the PAT lads and the fire alarms guys, all C. Cheers mate, you not Cyprus bound for Christmas? It only happens in the UK mate.
Today most of my local colleges here all wished me felicitations of the season, and this is one of the most strictest non Christian countries you can get. Ok Christmas is nowhere to be seen, and certainly not celebrated but in private it is tolerated and everyone wishes you well, as it should be. Marvo - Staff member. Reaction score 9, If the element's lasting 3 months I'm thinking it would rule out most of the usual reasons for failure such as wrong voltage, too high heat density tube for air, etc.
Probably just poor quality hastelloy tube.
